摘要: The purpose of this investigation was to describe the first application nasopharyngeal cytology (NPC), a new cytological technique collect cellular material from surface non-invasively in children with chronic adenoiditis associated recurrent acute otitis media and/or effusion. Cellular collected transorally using an extra-thin flexible wire swab and then examined under light microscope. diagnostic accuracy NPC detecting presence allergy pathogens (compared microbiological evaluation aspirates, NPAs) assessed. performed on 121 (mean age 69.4 ± 15.5 months). Inflammatory cells were detected 61.1 % 44.2 % patients, respectively. specificity eosinophils good (91.9 %), as mast cells, but sensitivities less. NPAs revealed bacterial colonisation 84.7 % Streptococcus pneumoniae most frequently isolated (60.0 %). bacteria 94.9 % including bacillary species 33.9 %. highly sensitive (96.0 %). Its fairly (75.0 %), corresponding values its sensitivity poor. Our findings suggest need for more structured studies that can test real effectiveness usefulness defining patterns diseases by comparing it established techniques.
