摘要: Title of Thesis: EXERCISE AND THE AGING BRAIN: A NEUROIMAGING STUDY OF FRONTAL LOBE FUNCTION DURING EXECUTIVE CHALLENGE IN OLDER MEN WOMEN WHO VARIED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PARTICIPATION Holly Sue Stover, Master Arts, 2003 Thesis directed by: Professor Bradley D. Hatfield Department Kinesiology Physical activity preserves neurocognitive functioning in older adults by increasing brain blood flow and preserving neurotransmitter activity. Because the frontal lobes show greatest decline, most apparent difference was expected between physically inactive versus active individuals when performing tasks that challenge lobes. Adults (66-92 years) with varied physical levels were administered binaural auditory oddball go-nogo tasks. The nogo trials challenged executive processes through response inhibition. indexed Yale Activity Survey. EEG recorded from frontal, central, parietal sites. Multiple regression analysis revealed overall relationship P300 amplitude to age significant during at site F3, F (2, 75) = 3.61, p .032 FZ, 6.26, .003. In summary, is associated a specific effect on aging challenge.
