摘要: Classically, myopathies are categorized according to limb or cranial nerve muscle affection, but with the growing use of magnetic resonance imaging it has become evident that many well-known have significant involvement axial musculature. New disease entities selective also been described recently, overall myopathy is unexplored. We performed a PubMed search using terms 'myopathy', 'paraspinal', 'axial' and 'erector'. Axial was defined as paraspinal found evidence musculature in majority which examined. Even diseases named after certain pattern non-axial such facioscapulohumeral girdle muscular dystrophies, affection often severe early, compared other groups. Very sparse literature evaluating validity clinical assessment methods, electromyography, biopsy identified reference material generally missing. This article provides an overview present knowledge on aim increase awareness spur interest among clinicians researchers field.
