摘要: Shellfish seasonality studies are summarized in this article, which presents the results of analysis at 94 sites nine southeastern states. All but six middens or shell lenses composed marine brackish water species (M. mercenaria, R. cuneata, D. variabilis). Shells those along Atlantic coast were collected from fall to early spring, while shells on Gulf during spring summer. Freshwater shellfish four states have been investigated and consistently indicated collection warm weather. The uniformity indicates that variation used, techniques sample sizes, geography no noticeable negative impact usefulness results. It is argued a staple diet many prehistoric horticultural peoples spite fact they dietary supplement for modern hunters collectors.
