摘要: Second harmonic 60 GHz electron cyclotron (EC) pre-ionization using low field side (LFS) X-mode launchers has been effective in producing target plasmas for startup of the DIII-D tokamak with densities comparable to fundamental LFS same EC system. A visible Bremsstrahlung array showed that breakdown occurred at 2nd resonance location and after a few milliseconds driven plasma filled entire vessel, independent resonant location, which was varied from near inner wall centre torus. The power threshold ionization ~0.4 MW observed these experiments. An orbit following code calculated cold (0.03 eV) electrons could be heated energies above 20 eV where neutral deuterium gas can occur. Scaling ITER indicates heating (ECH) initial formation is possible if operation reduced toroidal desired, but additional experiments are required extrapolate ECH start-up scenario ITER.
