摘要: Abstract Wooden archeological artifacts excavated from marine sources contain problematic sulfur which can result in degradation. A treatment to safely neutralize using alkaline earth carbonates is tested on samples the warship Mary Rose. S K-edge X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy confirms neutralization of acid already wood, by forming insoluble sulfate salts. The also catalyzes conversion iron sulfides soluble sulfates, thus removing future source this acid. Calcium carbonate favored as it non-toxic and economical. This relevant all organic that are threatened compounds.
