摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter describes gamete surface components that support tight species-specific binding of the free-swimming mammalian sperm to unfertilized eggs. Such is mediated in part, by carbohydrate. The zona pellucida glycoprotein, “ZP3,” serves as receptor during fertilization mammals. Close inspection characteristics this coupled with some speculation, may shed light on sperm–egg recognition mechanisms ZP3 consists at least two different functional domains, perhaps separated from each other, a hinge region polypeptide. One domains thought include C-terminal third polypeptide, which possesses O-linked oligosaccharides constitute, combining site for sperm.
