摘要: We propose a multiple-delivery transport service tailored for graphics and video transported over connections with wireless access. This operates at the interface between application layers, balancing subjective delay image quality objectives of low reliability limited bandwidth link. While techniques like forward-error correction, interleaving retransmission improve links, they also increase latency substantially when is limited. Certain forms interactive multimedia datatypes can benefit from an initial delivery corrupt packet to lower perceptual latency, as long reliable occurs eventually. Multiple successively refined versions received packet, terminating sufficiently version arrives, exploits redundancy inherently required without traffic penalty. Modifications acknowledgment-repeat-request (ARQ) methods implement this are proposed, which we term `leaky ARQ'. For specific case pixel-coded window-based text/graphics, describe additional functions needed more effectively support urgent asymptotic reliability. X server emulation suggests that users will accept multi-second (possibly corrupt) ultimate reliably-delivered version. The relaxed be exploited capacity improvement using scheduling retransmissions.© (1996) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society Optical Engineering.
