摘要: Background and aims: Salmonella colitis is an unusual cause of toxic megacolon. We provide overview this condition report a single case. Patients methods: A 62-year-old man underwent subtotal colectomy with ileostomy formation for megacolon due to enteritidis phage type 4 colitis, followed by reversal ileorectal anastomosis. Results: Twenty-seven cases have been described in the literature. These were first treated conservatively, antibiotics systemic/local steroids, some proceded surgery. Conclusion: rare megacolon, but it can behave opportunistically patients ulcerative colitis. S. typically transmitted via raw or uncooked eggs most salmonellosis attributed organism. The disease rapidly progressive, death may ensue septicaemia and/or perforation. Toxic aggressively, initially medically, high-dose steroids attention fluid balance, being usual working diagnosis. Once cultured, appropriate are commenced. Non-surgical decompression be cases, early surgical intervention required failed response these measures rapid deterioration patient's condition. Following initial surgery – often continuity restored. For ileal pouch anal anastomosis operation choice, safely performed Salmonella-induced Prevention better than cure, therefore health education needs reinforce avoidance use eggs.
