HIV Gag polyprotein: processing and early viral particle assembly

摘要: Over the past several decades, extensive research into Gag polyprotein, main structural protein of HIV-1 and all other retroviruses, has changed way that we describe Gag's role within viral lifecycles. Initially thought as a simple scaffold forming core, demonstrated ability to specifically recognize genomic RNA both host proteins it traffics cell membrane. There, forms higher ordered structures required for correct assembly, budding, maturation new infectious particles.
