Citation gamesmanship: testing for evidence of ego bias in peer review

摘要: This study tests for evidence of gaming and attention mongering--here termed ego bias--in the scholarly peer review process. We explore extent to which authors cite target journal its editor also relationship between targeted references editorial decisions. examine referee reports presence type determine reviewers their own work in reports. Our results are based on a sample 442 manuscripts 927 submitted Journal American Society Information Science Technology. find little that editors, or use process as an opportunity play citation games.
