摘要: The release of unwanted fish from purse seines whilst still in the water is termed slipping and may lead to significant mortality following release. objective this study was determine welfare implications a new methodology which are released via discharge opening formed bunt end seine net. Video analyses collective individual level behaviour were undertaken Norwegian mackerel herring fisheries, quantitively describe its driving factors. majority escaped with schooling structure intact as part large groups towards process, increasing their speed escape. However, there also tendency (24% all escapes) escape manner likely impact negatively upon welfare, breakdown physical contact fishing gear conspecifics. express such compromising higher for than herring, but influenced by vessel releasing fish, amount being slipped, how long had been open particular event. These results provide important information future science-based development friendly practises.
