摘要: The excitation of subharmonic waves on the free surface a horizontally vibrated, rectangular container liquid is considered and properties threshold patterns are obtained discussed. These generally quasiperiodic oblique (not aligned with walls). parametric forcing mechanism generated by harmonic oscillatory bulk flow assumed to dominate over that associated linear theory recently developed authors [Perez-Gracia et al 2014 J. Fluid Mech. 739 196?228] used compute both amplitude pattern orientation. Two distinct regimes considered: (1) large containers where at each endwall do not interact appreciably (2) smaller interaction occurs. nature critical eigenfunction examined in case, contrast drawn between pure 2:1 resonance general case instability.
