One questions being investigated was whether move from a protected elementary into larger, more impersonal junior high affected children's self-image negatively than did 6th 7th grade within same school. Subjects were 798 children 18 schools who interviewed privately once in year later frI-7th grade. There three main populations 'in -the--samrile:,(1) K-8 schools, (2) K-6/ high-Schools with comparable social characteristics, (3) K-6 which predominately black. interview consisted primarily multiple choice concerning self-esteem, behavior. Results indicated that white girls scored lower than, black or boys. An analysis data comparing students those K-6/junior programs moving likely show low retaining K78 system.
