Scientific research that crosses disciplinary boundaries (“interdisciplinary research”) – and in particular, academic to engage with industry, government non-government agencies, the broader public can be rewarding personally yield novel approaches findings. While scholarly literature suggests interdisciplinary are of immense value, carries challenges academics, particularly terms funding relation finding an “home.” In this article, author outlines what is meant by reflects on her career leading from graduate school tenure. She illustrates how projects she has been involved have both challenging. not every scientist must interdisciplinary, concludes being open such approach many advantages.
