摘要: The existence of pronounced differences in health outcomes between US populations is a problem moral significance and public urgency. Pursuing research on genetic contributors to such disparities, despite striking data the fundamental role social factors, has been controversial. Still, advances genomic science are providing an understanding disease biology at level precision not previously possible. potential for strategies help addressing population-level disparities therefore needs be carefully evaluated. Using 3 examples from current research, we argue that best way maximize benefits population-based investigations, mitigate harms, direct away identification causes instead focus applying methodologies development clinical tools with ameliorate healthcare inequities, interventions or inform policy. Such transformation will require close collaboration transdisciplinary teams community members as well reorientation objectives better align discovery efforts priorities well-recognized barriers fair care delivery.
