摘要: Malaria infections during pregnancy can lead to the delivery of low-birth-weight infants. In this study, cytokine mRNA was measured in placentas from 23 malaria-infected and 21 uninfected primigravid women who had delivered Mangochi, Malawi, a region with high rate transmission falciparum malaria. Significantly increased expression interleukin (IL)-1beta, IL-8, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha decreased IL-6 transforming growth factor-beta1 were found compared placentas. TNF-alpha IL-8 produced by maternally derived hemozoin-laden placental macrophages. Increased associated hemozoin concentrations. or placenta intrauterine retardation but not preterm delivery. The results suggest that malaria induce potentially harmful proinflammatory response placenta.
