Prevalence and correlates of co-prescribing psychotropic medications with long-term opioid use nationally in the Veterans Health Administration.

摘要: We used national data for fiscal year 2012 to examine demographic, psychiatric and medical diagnoses, indications psychotropics, service use correlates of psychotropic medication fills in Veterans with at least 10 opioid prescriptions during the (the highest 29% users); whether Veteran was treated a specialty mental health clinic. Of 328,398 who filled prescriptions, 77% also received whom: 74% antidepressants, 55% anxiolytics/sedatives/hypnotics, 26% three or more classes medications. Altogether, 87% had indication; 54% treatment. clinic were prescribed psychotropics likely have documented indication than those solely other settings. Indicated diagnoses strongest predictors specific class prescribed; anxiety disorder insomnia most strongly associated anxioloytics/sedatives/hypnotics receipt. Since opioids can produce harmful side effects, especially when combined, since they are by separate providers different settings, coordinated consideration risks benefits co-prescribing these medications may be needed, along further study related adverse events.
