摘要: Microstructural features have been investigated in fusion welded samples of the established Al-Cu-Mg-Mn airframe alloy, 2024-T351. Specifically, local strengthening and precipitate conditions assessed for variable polarity plasma arc (VPPA) welding 13mm thick plate. Microstructures were studied using a combination differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Micro-hardness measurements (Vickers hardness) carried out, identifying two peak structure heat affected zone (HAZ) minimum plateau zone. The influences aging, re-solutionising re-precipitation are noted across HAZ, along with incidence omega(Al2Cu) phase.
