摘要: Pit1, the receptor for gibbon ape leukemia virus (GALV), is proposed to be an integral membrane protein with five extracellular loops. Chimeras made between Pit1 homologs differing in permissivity infection and related Pit2 have shown that fourth loop plays a critical role infection. However, further elucidation of roles loops hampered by high level sequence similarity among these proteins. The sodium-dependent phosphate transporter, Pho-4, from filamentous fungus Neurospora crassa distantly -2, showing amino acid identity only 35% putative We show here Pho-4 itself does not function as GALV. Introduction 12 Pit1-specific residues resulted functional GALV receptor. Therefore, presence 4-specific sufficient confer mammalian retrovirus on fungal transporter Pho-4.
