摘要: Modern transfusion medicine relies on the safe, secure, and cost-effective delivery of donated red blood cells (RBCs). Once isolated, RBCs are suspended in a defined additive solution stored plastic bags which, over time, they undergo chemical, physiological, morphological changes that may have deleterious impact some patients. Regulations limit storage period to 42 days do not routinely analytical testing before use. In this study, we use Raman spectroscopy interrogate identify metabolic cell-breakdown products, such as haemoglobin membrane fragments, build-up age. Our work points way development an instrument which could quickly easily assess biochemical nature RBC units transfused.
