摘要: Over the past 7 years, US Department of Energy’s Office Biological and Environmental Research has funded three Bioenergy Centers (BRCs). These centers have developed complementary collaborative research portfolios that address key technical economic challenges in biofuel production from lignocellulosic biomass. All established a close, productive relationship with DOE’s Joint Genome Institute (JGI). This special issue samples breadth basic science engineering work required to underpin diverse, sustainable, robust industry. In this report, which was collaboratively produced by all BRCs, we discuss BRC contributions over their first years development renewable transportation fuels. We also highlight published current light recent progress.
