摘要: While the occurrence and function of vocalisation by pikas has been studied (genus Ochotona), little is known about hares Lepus). In this study, we investigate activity mountain hare (Lepus timidus) over course a year to better understand its function. We found that have low rate one every 33 night hours. hypothesise result strategy minimise detection predators. However, 20 recorded vocal events correspond with intraspecific communication such as warning others danger defending resources. This case study identifies further research directions help strengthen our understanding between solitary hares.
