摘要: Satellite telemetry devices collect valuable information concerning the sites visited by animals, including location of central places like dens, nests, rookeries, or haul-outs. Existing methods for estimating from data require user-specified thresholds and ignore common nuances measurement error. We present a fully model-based approach locating that accounts multiple sources uncertainty uses all available locational data. Our general framework consists an observation model to account large error animal movement, highly flexible mixture specified using Dirichlet process identify places. also quantify temporal patterns in place use incorporating ancillary behavioral into model; however, our is suitable when no such exist. apply simulated set as proof concept. then illustrate analyzing Argos satellite on harbor seals (Phoca vitulina) Gulf Alaska, species exhibits fidelity terrestrial haul-out sites.
