摘要: During a taste and odor episode (2-methylisoborneol) in reservoir that supplies the Fortaleza Metropolitan Region, Brazil, two surveys were conducted to determine tap water usage behavior as well sensory sensitivity towards off-flavors of participants with same level education. Most volunteers did not consume water, mainly due safety concerns (57%) disagreeable organoleptics (21%). The majority those who use (73%) so because economic reasons remainder point-of-use filtration systems, which rendered safer their perception. Human Development Index (HDI), measure income, influence rate rejection. Volunteers from low medium HDI neighborhoods likely reject high neighborhoods. Chlorine flavor earthy most perceived off-flavors. Water containing moderate amounts off-flavor compounds (dilution 1:2 tap/bottled water) was considered ‘acceptable’ by while concentrations 1:5 ‘good’.
