摘要: There are currently only two islands in the Caribbean that harbour Neotropical primates, Isla de Margarita with an endemic capuchin Sapajus apella margaritae; and Trinidad monkeys Cebus albifrons trinitatis Alouatta seniculus insulanus recently introduced brown apella. These live habitat surrounded by towns, agricultural areas roads, their main threats fragmentation hunting. In this case study, conducted on a fragment scale Margarita, we report distribution encounter rates of monkey groups signs, as well location primates habitat. We reconnaissance surveys interviews local people hunters. Line-transect distance sampling were carried out forest fragments where capuchins found. four fragments; them protected areas. The abundance howler wedge-capped mountains could not be quantified it is assumed they likely to low, but generates concern about resource competition, disease transmission hybridisation. Capuchins seem prefer evergreen when available, also entirely covered dry vegetation. Corridors have been proposed increase capacity dispersal among important factor for long-term survival island.
