摘要: This study assesses the association of HMO enrollment with preventable hospitalizations among elderly in four states. Using 2001 hospital discharge abstracts for Medicare enrollees (age 65 and above) residing states (New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, California), from Healthcare Cost Utilization Project (HCUP-SID) database Agency Research Quality, we use a multivariate cross-sectional design patient-level data each state. Holding other factors such as demographics illness severity constant, find that three out states, patients had lower odds admission versus marker than fee-for-service (FFS) patients. Moreover, two longest tenure greatest penetration, California reduction admissions was mainly concentrated more ill These findings add to evidence managed care outperforms traditional elderly, rather simply skimming off healthiest populations.
