The Impact of Internalized Homophobia on HIV Preventive Interventions

摘要: A growing body of research implicates internalized homophobia—the internalization society's antihomosexual sentiments by gay and lesbian people—as a factor contributing to HIV-related sexual risk behavior in bisexual men. Although accumulating evidence links homophobia behavior, no study has explored the impact on efforts prevent these behaviors. This paper examines effect men's awareness of, participation in, perceptions programs offered community-based HIV prevention organization. In Study 1, 595 men reported their levels programming one community Internalized was negatively related services However, among who were aware at least service, did not further predict service utilization. 2 examined 89 participated for single session group-structured, preventive intervention. Pre- immediate postintervention change condom use self-efficacy inversely homophobia. also significant negative predictor extent which participants felt similar well with other members group. Together, findings suggest that may pose multiple barriers efforts.
