摘要: Plants respond to volatile cues emitted by damaged neighbors increase their defenses against herbivores. We examined whether plants communicated more effectively with local than distant in a reciprocal experiment at two sites. Three branches on focal were incubated air from (1) control, (2) an experimentally clipped "foreign" plant 230 km away, or (3) "local" the same population as plant. Branches controls experienced 50-80% leaf damage those receiving plants. Of interest, volatiles received 50-65% of Sabinyl compounds and related terpinenes found differ consistently for southern northern These results indicate that vary geographically effectiveness suggest sagebrush responds strongly foreign dialects.
