摘要: THE FORGOTTEN SIXTY-NINTH: SIXTY-NINTH NEW YORK NATIONAL GUARD ARTILLERY REGIMENT IN AMERICAN CIVIL WAR Christopher M. Garcia Old Dominion University, 2012 Director: Dr. Timothy J. Orr In Civil War historiography, consistent attention and public interest has illuminated the history of various Irish organizations, no regiment more so than New York’s famed “Fighting Sixty-Ninth.” During conflict, State York fielded three regiments designated Sixty-Ninth, but scholarship tended to favor just one them, 69 Volunteers Brigade. The National Guard Artillery, first in General Michael Corcoran’s Legion, been virtually forgotten. This was, essence, standing Militia federal service for years or war. Artillery had local international ramifications. It represented a subculture within immigrant community that was core transnational Fenian Brotherhood. Its complicates commonly-held assumptions about IrishAmerican support war its regimental provides new insights into conflict. Oddly enough, Artillery’s uniqueness ultimately wrote itself out historical record. thesis is an attempt reclaim analyze unknown chapter experience America.
