Interstellar Matters: Neutral Hydrogen and the Galactic Magnetic Field

摘要: A very long and nearly straight H i filament at about −60 km s−1 in the southern Galactic hemisphere, seen normal to line of sight well separated from low-velocity gas, has been studied several ways order understand its physics, structure, morphology. Gaussian analysis 1800 profiles examination 140 declination–velocity cross sections shows that an underlying component, which is least 15° 1° wide, a typical width 21 s−1. It does not appear be thermal pressure equilibrium with surroundings; rather, it may confined by magnetic field 18 μG. Narrow, elongated features (threads), probably unresolved 4' observations, have identified within boundaries filament. In general, each these threads two emission components, widths 8 3 s−1, wind around other. Analysis suggests cooler components average density 29 cm−3 5 These results, taken together, can explained if this substructure.
