摘要: Abstract This article reviews the development of understanding coordination number in lanthanide complexes, showing how it was realized 1960s that complexes frequently had much higher numbers than 6, and subsequently became possible for chemists to synthesise compounds with as low 2, 3 4. Subsequent sections examine solvent can cause uncertainties numbers; determination aqua ions hydrated salts; variations (or not) across series; effect counter-ion upon number; agostic interactions distant atoms (when is a bond not bond?).
