摘要: Waterborne disease is estimated to cause about 10% of all diseases worldwide. However, related risk perceptions are not well understood, particularly in the developing world where waterborne an enormous problem. We focus on understanding these issues a region within northern Mexico. Our findings show how problems and solutions understood eight small communities along highly contaminated river system. found major differences between health professionals, government officials, lay citizens. Health professionals believed that high level human-waste-related existed region. Few officials citizens shared this belief. In addition, few were aware poor wastewater-management-related outbreaks water contamination. Finally, aside from interviewees importance basic hygiene treatment measures could help prevent disease. results add literature environmentally-related world. discuss recommendations for improving future human-wastewater-related communication
