摘要: The effect of Black Band Disease (BBD) among colonies ofMontastrea annularis, M. cavernosa, Diploria strigosa, D. labryinthiformis, S. siderea andColpophyllia natans was determined at 7 shallow locations in the Virgin Islands. Between September 1988 and November 1988, 0.2% 9204 these species were infected with BBD 6908 m2 reef 22 randomly chosen areas. Infected not clumped suggesting that disease is highly infectious between colonies. infection rates areas surveyed 4 times August 1989 Greater Lameshur Bay, St. John, USVI, significantly lower winter compared to summer. BBDs found on 5.5% ofD. strigosa Fall out 12 lost >75% their tissue 6 months. Low level, chronic infections could convert 3.9% living cover ofD.strigosa free space per year, thereby creating substrata for successional processes.
