摘要: AbstractSite-index ideas are reviewed, stressing conceptual foundations and issues that fre-quently misunderstood. The structure of site-index models is explained first within atraditional deterministic context. When variability due to environmental fluctuationsand observational errors introduced, it found difficulties procedure andinterpretation appear. Overlooked differences in the definitions site index implic-itly used by various authors can cause confusion. relationship between growthfunctions differential equations also examined. Rational parameter estimationrequires a clear model for error structure, general formulation offered. The article ends with brief review several modelling methods terms theconcepts previously exposed. 1 Introduction Site-index relate height, age quality (potential productivity) even-agedsingle-species stands. They predicting stand height development, assessingsite quality. Various approaches described textbooks such as Belyea (1931), Spurr (1952),Clutter et al. (1983), reviews have been published Jones (1969), Carmean (1975),Ha¨gglund (1981), Ortega Montero (1988), Grey (1989).In setting, relatively straightforward. However, when variabilitydue weather conditions sampling and/or measurement subtle pitfallshave caused confusion controversy. Stochastic aspects important devising andevaluating estimation procedures. What follows an exposition key issues, focusing on generalconcepts strategies.
