摘要: Long-term monitoring of stream chemistry forested watersheds on the Fernow Experimental Forest in West Virginia has been conducted to determine effects both human induced and natural disturbances nutrient cycling chemistry. We compare mean annual water pH, nitrate (NO3), sulfate (SO4), calcium (Ca) concentrations from 6 gauged with different disturbance regimes for last 30 years. Most are not sufficiently large area or extent have a detectable effect (diameter-limit selection harvesting, clearcutting, windstorms). Fertilization, acidic deposition at ambient levels, maintaining devoid vegetation, conversion conifers significantly affected Implications managing hardwood forests sustainability discussed.
