摘要: Neurobehavioral screening methods, such as the functional observational battery (FOB), are now widely used to identify potential neurotoxicity of new and existing chemicals. These methods have been validated a large database exists for effects wide range Since most observations recorded subjective, quality test data depends largely on observer's ability detect describe changes in animal's behavior neurologic function. Efforts underway aid training observers achieve consistency across laboratories use these methods. With increasing concern over neurotoxicological consequences chemical exposure developing organism, there is growing interest testing laboratory animals at very young ages. We present here an initial report development FOB suitable rats, using some modifications individual adult measures make them age-appropriate. evaluated pre- postweanling rats determine behaviors (as with FOB) displayed each age, develop appropriate scoring criteria, collect control document ontogeny endpoints FOB. This revised protocol may be useful assessing behavioral or neurological due acute following gestational/lactational exposures typical developmental studies.
