摘要: Abstract Comparison of rates accumulation organic carbon in surface marine sediments from the central North Pacific, continental margins off northwest Africa, and southwest America, Argentine Basin, western Baltic Sea with primary production suggests that fraction produced preserved is universally related to bulk sedimentation rate. Accordingly, less than 0.01% becomes fossilized slowly accumulating pelagic [(2 6 mm (1000 y)−1] Central 0.1 2% moderately rapidly [2 13 cm hemipelagic America (Oregon) southeast (Argentina), 11 18% [66 140 (Peru) Sea. The emiprical expression: % Org-C = 0.0030· R · S 0.30 p s (1−θ) implies sedimentary content (% Org-C) doubles each 10-fold increase rate (S), assuming other factors remain constant; i.e., (R), porosity (φ) sediment density (ps). This expression also predicts rate, dry solids, their porosity; it may be used estimate paleoproductivity as well. Applying this relationship a core rise Africa (Spanish Sahara) productivity there during interglacial oxygen isotope stages 1 5 was about same today but higher by factor 2 3 glacial 2, 3, 6.
