摘要: Chronic pain following median sternotomy is common after cardiac surgery. If left untreated, chronic sternal can reduce quality of life, affecting sleep, mood, activity level, and overall satisfaction. This has a significant societal effect given the large number surgeries annually. Although pathophysiologic processes risk factors are assumed to contribute, exact cause major remain unknown. Moreover, treatment poststernotomy often inadequate, relying on opioids other medications that provide minimal benefit patient have adverse effects. Indeed, little known regarding prevention development sternotomy. review aims present current, limited data incidence, factors, treatment, identify areas future research improve management this complaint
