Sexual health prevention for incarcerated women: eroticising safe sex during re-entry to the community

摘要: Introduction In the USA, incarcerated women are disproportionately affected by sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV. Transitioning from incarceration into community is accompanied elevated risk behaviours related to acquisition of STIs, yet few efficacious interventions address sexual health prevention among women. Methods We conducted an exploratory qualitative study with 21 at four women’s state prison facilities in two Northeastern states USA. Qualitative data were gathered focus groups guide future intervention development. Focus group discussions guided a semi-structured protocol exploring perceptions methods, experience implementing technologies and protective behaviours, strategies overcome challenges behaviours. audio-recorded transcribed verbatim. Data analysed using thematic analysis. Results Women described uptake existing low-cost such as condoms. They identified facilitate use tools, increase relating during transition community. For example, methods for eroticising male female condoms, selecting condoms novel features, explaining partners that could pleasure, incorporating condom application foreplay and/or oral sex.
