摘要: OBJECTIVE: To determine the reliability of self reports smoking during pregnancy. METHODS: Residual sera from early and late antenatal blood samples were tested for cotinine all pregnancies over a six month period. Over an overlapping 12 period, postal questionnaire on was also sent to new mothers (n = 4857) when their baby 4-8 weeks old. Smoking status obstetric booking notes obtained. RESULTS: The cotinine-validated prevalence 31.3% first trimester 27.7% third trimester. Questionnaire reported prevalences 19.2% 15.7% trimesters respectively, 18.9% booking. Of smokers, 22% denied smoking-self deceivers. who replied questionnaire, half appeared systematically under report amount they smoked. CONCLUSIONS: Nearly quarter pregnant women did not smoking. Moreover, those did, smoked often reported. This tendency may rise as pressures stop increase. Accurate measures in will require objective testing.
