摘要: The U.S. Geological Survey is conducting a geologic and geophysical study of the northeastern United States outer continental shelf adjacent slope from Georges Bank to Cape Hatteras. also includes coastal plain because it more accessible extension shelf. total area about 324,000 sq km, which constitute 181,000 km constitutes 143,000 km. width ranges 30 at Hatteras 195 off Raritan Bay on Bank. Analyses bottom samples make possible construct preliminary map water depth 2,000 m. oldest beds cropping out in submarine canyons are early ate Cretaceous age. Beds Early Jurassic age present deep wells onshore probably beneath this study. Such reported Scotian northeast where they include limestone, salt, anhydrite. Preliminary conclusions suggest considerably thicker Mesozoic sedimentary sequence than has been described previously. region large; wedge thick; structures seem favorable; hydrocarbon potential may be considerable.
