摘要: Abstract A biosensor based on the excitation of surface electromagnetic waves in photonic band gap multilayer films is demonstrated. The operating principle this device similar to plasmon biosensors with key difference that a film replaces metal as medium which are excited. use offers number advantages. First, wave resonance much sharper leading potential greatly enhanced sensitivity. Second, properties material can be engineered make sensor operates at any wavelength. experiments reported here conducted 470 nm, wavelength not generally accessible sensing. Finally, more mechanically robust than and they offer new substrates for chemistry. paper describes design films, chemistry biology create sensing chips, spectroscopic experimental configuration used observe track mode resonance. Experimental results presented refractive index sensing, antibody–antigen reactions, DNA binding.
