摘要: Although living in substantially different habitats, African (Loxodonta sp.) and Asian (Elephas maximus) elephants are extremely social intra-specific communication is therefore highly developed these species. In particular, very vocal acoustic signals play an integral part within the society of elephants. this chapter, we provide a cross-species comparison savannah elephant (L. africana) systems, discussing structure various call types, examples imitation sound production mechanisms. We aim to explore what similarities differences system two species could reveal about functions, ecological conditions that have shaped systems. light this, suggest future comparative investigations may deeper insights into evolutionary cognitive bases complex signalling
