摘要: This chapter examines the red blood cell metabolism in fishes. The potential for activity of several pathways fish has been demonstrated studies. It presents a study whole and washed erythrocytes sea raven, Hernitripterus arnericanus , which rates glucose utilization O 2 consumption are compared. was found that blood, calculated from measured disappearance total very closely matched rates. match respiration rate less precise washed, unstimulated were approximately 50% those but remained same, even when doubled by maximal adrenergic stimulation. observed rainbow trout RBCs oxidized lactate poorly, exhaustive exercise increased oxidation to exceed glucose. increase is far above attributable substrate concentration alone. implies catecholamine-induced process may be involved.
