摘要: Abstract Large-scale restoration of streams and rivers is a mandatory prerequisite for the implementation European Water Framework Directive (WFD) to reach good ecological status water bodies. This contribution analyzes success largest river in Germany at Upper Main. Sections with length more than 18 km were restored between 1990 2008, including re-connection former oxbow-lakes, multiple-channelling, establishment wide riparian buffer zones. Measuring by means multimetric assessment system, we found clear indicated hydromorphology biological parameters, macroinvertebrates, fishes, macrophytes. Unlike non-restored reaches, reaches attained status. As such, Main shown be pilot project WFD on large scale.
