摘要: Purpose The cortical characteristics of the iliac crest in male have rarely been investigated with quantitative histomorphometry. Also it is still unknown how microarchitecture may vary between and fractures related sites at proximal femur. We studied both external internal cortices within crest, compared results femoral neck subtrochanteric shaft sites. Methods Undecalcified histological sections were obtained bicortically from cadavers (n = 20, aged 18–82 years, males). They cut (7 μm) stained using modified Masson-Goldner stain. Histomorphometric parameters bone analysed low (× 50) high 100) magnification, after identifying boundaries our previously validated method. Within area, only complete osteons typical concentric lamellae cement line selected measured. Results At mean width cortex was higher than (p 50 years) < 0.05). Several (e.g. osteon area per pore number area) lowest maximal osteonal diameter wall highest 0.05), width, Some structural min diameter) significantly positively correlated (0.29 ≤ R2 0.45, p 0.05) neck. Conclusions This study reveals heterogeneity cortices, as well shaft. Standard biopsy does not reflect accurately other skeletal (Less)
