摘要: Most Red-cockaded Woodpecker (Picoides borealis) populations are in pine forests that have been harvested at least once and relatively young compared to old- growth stands. We quantified foraging behavior, year-round home range, woodpecker productivity for groups within proximal an old-growth longleaf (Pinus palustris) stand from late 1992 1993 southwestern Georgia. Average range size seven adjacent the based on minimum 95% convex polygons was 47.1 ha. Year-round negatively correlated with percentage of home-range located forest. In class distribution trees selected by woodpeckers different than available classes >30 cm dbh. As other studies, males females differed height parts used. Clutch fledging rates study were also higher reported studies. Woodpeckers preferentially forage large (and presumably old) trees. The small year- round high density, group size, indicate this forest is quality habitat. suggest management in- tended provide adequate number replacement cavity habitat should old across landscape.
