Health consequences of sexual hookups for first-year college women: A one-year prospective investigation

摘要: “Hookups” are sexual encounters between partners who not in a traditional committed romantic relationship. The majority of college students engage hookup behavior, but little is known about the health consequences hookups. This longitudinal study examined effects hookups on mental and risk for victimization (SV) sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among first-year women. It was hypothesized that behavior would negatively affect women’s increase their likelihood experiencing SV STDs. Participants (N = 483) completed 13 monthly online surveys assessed (performing oral sex, receiving vaginal sex) with casual partners, outcomes, SV, selfreported STD diagnoses. were also tested three STDs at end academic year. Hookup involving either or sex reported by 34% prior to 40% during year-long study. Multivariate latent growth curve modeling showed increases probability (performed) year associated perceived stress decreases positive affect.
