摘要: A new study of the effect specimen size on results plane-strain fracture toughness tests a relatively tough aluminum alloy, 2219-T851, suggests that an increase in requirements may be necessary to assure size-independent test results. Specifically, it appears crack length limit should increased 5(K I c /σ Y S ) 2 , which has keeping maximum nominal net-section stress below two thirds yield strength. The current thickness could maintained at 2.5 (K although there is some evidence might relaxed further. Additional work needed check generality these suggestions for other materials, as well possibility if W/B=2 and a=B K m x useful engineering estimate .
